I hope that this note finds you well and warm.  We have had one strange winter, that is for certain!  We get snow, then thaw out to a mud pie, then get ice, then get snow, and the whole process repeats itself.  It’s a constant lather-rinse-repeat cycle.  I’m tired of it!

Painting a Dog a Day Update

"Thank you (Poncho)," from February 6th 2008

I’ve been busy in the studio, continuing work on the Painting a Dog a Day project, which is now booked until March of 2009.  I plan to keep the project going for as long as interest remains, and right now we are going full gangbusters!

If you do not already receive the dog a day paintings via email, think about it.  You’ll be among the first to learn about studio events, and get an opportunity to purchase the artwork.  Subscriptions are free – simply plug your email address into the box below.

Tags, Toys & Treasures Series

"Big, Bigger, and Biggest," 10" x 12", from the Tags, Toys & Treasures series

And while I’ve scaled back on the larger-than-life gallery stretched canvases, I have begun work on a new series of still lives.  I have started a collection of vintage children’s toys, mostly dog related ones, and arranging them in simple groups.

You should see my stash – I have a lot of Fisher Price Little People dogs, some mohair straw filled stuffed animals, pull toys, some cast iron pieces, vintage linens, old books and a host of cast metal figurines.

My collection is constantly growing (I’m an ebay addict!).

These new still lives accompany my dog tag and dog collar paintings, as well as some new projects involving dog show ribbons and pedigree paperwork.  You can view some of the paintings (including a couple of special Valentines made from heart shaped dog tags) at www.turtledovedesigns.com/dog_tags_toys_treasures.html .

You may add your own tag, dog collars and ephemera to the pool by sending them to the studio (346 N Anderson, Lake Orion, MI 48362).  If you wish your items returned, please include a self-addressed-stamped-envelope.  I will acknowledge receipt of all materials.

New Giclee Print

"Wanna go for a walk?" from the Tags, Toys & Treasures series

Due to popular demand, I’ve issued a new print!  “Wanna Go For a Walk?” is a still life painting of a vintage Fisher Price Little Snoopy dog pull toy.  The print image is approximately 8” x 11”, done with archival inks on a beautiful artist paper.  Each print comes with a nice wide margin, and will be signed in pencil.  Remarks are available for an additional fee.

Prints of “Wanna go for a walk?” are $50 plus $12 shipping and handling inside the United States.

Notecards

I have a limited number of notecards available.  There are 2 designs, one starring a silver tabby cat and another featuring a black Labrador retriever.  Cards come in packages of 10 (one design only), are approximately 5-1/2” x 4”, with blank interiors.

You can see the notecards and place your order through my website:  www.turtledovedesigns.com/pet_portrait_notecards.html.

I will be happy to combine shipping on multiple orders.

March Events

I will be in attendance at the Detroit Kennel Club’s March dog show, at the AKC booth from 1-3 both Saturday March 1st and Sunday March 2nd.  Copies of my winning poster design from the 2007 National Championships (pictured above) will be available, and I will be happy to personalize them for you.  Please stop by and introduce yourselves.

The following weekend, on March 8th, I’ll be at Margot’s Gallery in Oxford, Michigan, again personalizing my 2007 AKC Eukanaba National Dog Show Poster and shooting reference photos for future Painting a Dog a Day stars.  Bring your dog along and your best smile.

Grand National Rodeo Championships Art Show

In April I will be hanging new paintings at the Grand National Rodeo Championships in San Francisco.  Wish I could say I would be in attendance too (I’m getting tired of the snow-thaw-ice routine).

This is an invitational exhibition which I am honored to be a part of.  The new paintings I am sending feature donkeys, mules, and chickens.  I may be biased, but they are charming.

Those who go to the show will get to see the paintings before anyone else.  Should any pieces return, I’ll share them through the Painting a Dog a Day blog (even though they are not, technically, dogs).

Shaggy Chic Boutique

I am especially thrilled to be partnering with the owners of Shaggy Chic Boutique in Birmingham, Michigan.  If you haven't yet discovered this gem of a shop, you need to stop by (574 N. Old Woodward) - the store is overflowing with delights for dogs and their people.

I get to borrow the walls of the Shaggy Chic Boutique to highlight the Painting a Dog a Day project.  One weekend this spring (probably May) I’ll be hanging out there, meeting their customers, enjoying the freshly baked dog biscuits (well, the 4-legged customers will be doing that), and sharing my paintings.

Additionally, 10% of dog a day sales made that weekend (including booked commissions) will be donated to a local rescue group.

Watch the Exhibitions page of my website for the details to be published.

Meanwhile, you can reach either Lisa or Beverly at the Shaggy Chic Boutique with any questions you might have:  248-594-5599.

Website Revamp

After a full year of promises, the website revamp is almost done!  I have a few links to code into the text, but otherwise I believe all the images and information is current.  Hopefully the reorganization makes it easier to navigate and find what you are looking for!

Finally, thank you to everyone who continues to follow along with the Painting a Dog a Day pieces.  The projects’ readership has grown, and I feel a true sense of community among you all.  I especially appreciate your support during the weeks following the death of Turtledove, and most recently during Finnigan’s pancreatitis attack.  I am so blessed to have an extended family like this!

As always, please don’t hesitate to drop me a line with your thoughts, suggestions, and ideas:  ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com .

Take care,

Kim
